## Key Takeaways

- **They solve a similar problem in different ways.** HubSpot Marketing Hub is one hub in a connected platform. Adobe describes Marketo Engage as an enterprise marketing automation platform.
- **Price transparency is the clearest difference.** HubSpot publishes tiers and prices. Adobe publishes four editions and asks you to request pricing.
- **The CRM decision comes first.** Marketing automation is only as good as the customer data under it, so choose with your CRM, not around it.
- **Team size and admin capacity matter more than feature lists.** The best platform is the one your team will keep configured and use.
- **We are a HubSpot partner, and we say so.** Where Marketo is the better fit, this guide says that too.
- **Decide on a real use case.** Run one live campaign scenario through both before you sign anything.

If you are comparing HubSpot and Marketo, you are probably past the point of wanting a features checklist. Both platforms send email, score leads, run nurture programs and report on campaigns. The question that decides whether the project works is different: which one will your team actually run well in a year?

We implement HubSpot for a living, as a

[HubSpot Platinum Solutions Partner](https://www.thequantumleap.business/hubspot-implementations), so you should read this with that in mind. We have configured 315+ HubSpot portals and have an opinion. We also know the situations where a different platform is the sensible choice, and we would rather tell you that before you spend a quarter proving it.

This guide compares the two on what each vendor says about itself today, then on the questions that tend to decide the choice: where your CRM lives, what it costs to own, how much administration you can staff, and how hard it is to leave. Where we are giving a judgment instead of a fact, we say so.

## The short answer

HubSpot Marketing Hub is usually the better fit for teams that want marketing, sales and service on one set of customer records, that value published pricing and fast setup, and that do not have a dedicated marketing operations engineer. Adobe Marketo Engage is usually the better fit for large organizations that already run on Adobe, need heavy governance and complex program logic, and have the people to administer it.

Most mid-sized B2B companies we meet sit closer to the first description. Most of the cost of a failed marketing automation project, though, comes from picking a platform for the company you hope to be instead of the team you have. Keep that in mind as you read the rest.

## What each platform actually is

### HubSpot Marketing Hub

Marketing Hub is the marketing part of the HubSpot platform. It is sold in tiers, Starter, Professional and Enterprise, and HubSpot publishes the prices and what each tier includes on its

[Marketing Hub pricing page](https://www.hubspot.com/pricing/marketing). The Professional and Enterprise tiers carry a one-time onboarding fee. In the portals we build, Marketing Hub runs on the same contact and company records as Sales Hub and Service Hub, so a marketing change and a sales change act on one database.

### Adobe Marketo Engage

Adobe describes Marketo Engage on its

[product page](https://business.adobe.com/products/marketo/adobe-marketo.html) as an AI-powered enterprise marketing automation solution built to scale personalized buyer engagement. Its capability areas include campaign operations, omnichannel engagement, personalized content, sales intelligence and engagement, marketing impact analytics, and profiles and audiences. Adobe also lists related products alongside it, such as Marketo Measure.

Adobe lists four editions on its

[pricing page](https://business.adobe.com/products/marketo/pricing.html). The Growth edition covers core email, segmentation, automation and measurement. Prime adds lead and account based marketing with journey analytics and AI personalization. Ultimate adds premium attribution. Prices are not published; the page directs you to request customized pricing.

## HubSpot vs Marketo side by side

This table sticks to what the vendors publish, plus our own experience where it is labelled as such.

| HubSpot Marketing Hub | Adobe Marketo Engage | |
| --- | --- | --- |
| How the vendor describes it | Marketing software within the HubSpot customer platform | AI-powered enterprise marketing automation solution |
| Editions | Starter, Professional, Enterprise | Four editions, including Growth, Prime and Ultimate |
| Published pricing | Yes, on the pricing page | No; customized pricing on request |
| Onboarding | Required one-time fee on Professional and Enterprise, often waivable through a partner | Not stated on the pricing page; ask during the quote |
| Account based marketing | Check the tier you need on the pricing page | Named in the Prime edition |
| Attribution | Reporting in the platform; depth depends on tier | Premium attribution in Ultimate; Marketo Measure is listed as an additional product |
| AI | HubSpot Credits are included with each tier | AI and agentic features, with a Marketo Engage MCP server announced |
| Where the CRM sits (our experience) | On the same platform, one set of records | Marketing automation that you connect to your CRM |
| Typical admin load (our judgment) | Marketers can run most of it themselves | Plan for a dedicated operations owner |

Read the last two rows as judgment, not specification. They come from the implementations we have run and the migrations we have been asked to clean up, and your situation may differ.

## Where the CRM sits, and why it matters

Marketing automation does not produce revenue by itself. It produces better-qualified conversations if the data underneath it is trustworthy. So the CRM question usually decides the platform question.

If you are already committed to a CRM you will keep, ask how each platform syncs with it, which fields move in which direction, what happens when a record is edited in both places, and who fixes sync errors when they appear. Every integration you add is a thing to monitor, and a disconnected sync is how a lead ends up in the wrong nurture track.

If you are choosing a CRM at the same time, the picture is different. A single platform removes the sync question, which is why many of our clients choose HubSpot for the whole stack. If you are weighing HubSpot against another CRM as well, our comparison of

[HubSpot and Salesforce](https://www.thequantumleap.business/blog/hubspot-vs-salesforce-best-b2b-crm-2026) covers that decision.

## Cost, pricing and onboarding

Total cost has four parts: the subscription, the one-time setup, the people who run it, and the cost of change later. The two vendors are most different on the first.

- **Subscription.** HubSpot publishes tier prices and contact allowances, so you can model a year before you talk to anyone. Adobe asks you to request a quote, which means you cannot compare until you have been through a sales process.
- **Setup.** HubSpot charges a required one-time onboarding fee on Professional and Enterprise, and a Solutions Partner can often waive it. Our guide to [what HubSpot onboarding costs](https://www.thequantumleap.business/hubspot-onboarding-cost) shows the current figures and what a partner adds. Ask Adobe, or its implementation partner, for a written scope and price.
- **People.** Be honest about who will own the platform. A tool that needs a specialist is cheap only if you already employ one.
- **Change.** Ask how hard it would be to leave in three years, and what you would take with you. In our experience contacts and campaign history move across, while automations and scoring models usually have to be rebuilt.

For a quick view of our own pricing, see

[our pricing page](https://www.thequantumleap.business/pricing). If you want a number for your situation, we do a fixed-price [HubSpot build](https://www.thequantumleap.business/hubspot-build) with capped hours, so the figure is agreed before the work starts.

## Which one fits which team

### HubSpot tends to fit when

- Marketing and sales share customers and you want one view of them.
- The marketing team is small and wants to build and change campaigns without waiting on an administrator.
- You want to see the price before you start a sales conversation.
- You are moving from spreadsheets or a basic email tool, not from an enterprise stack.

### Marketo tends to fit when

- You are a large organization with Adobe products across marketing and want them to work together.
- Your programs need granular governance, multiple business units or complex lead routing.
- You already employ a marketing operations specialist, or you will.
- Your CRM is fixed for reasons outside marketing, and Marketo connects to it well.

Neither list is a rule. We have seen small teams run Marketo well and large teams run HubSpot well. The pattern we see most often is a team buying for its ambition and then not having the capacity to configure and maintain what it bought. Our

[portal audit](https://www.thequantumleap.business/hubspot-portal-audit) is aimed at finding exactly that gap in an existing HubSpot portal.

## Switching from Marketo to HubSpot

Teams do move, usually for one of three reasons: cost, complexity, or a decision to put everything on one platform. If you are considering it, plan the move in this order.

- **Inventory first.** List the active programs, scoring models, forms, landing pages and integrations. Retire what nobody uses instead of rebuilding it.
- **Clean the data.** Deduplicate contacts and decide which properties survive. Importing dirty data into a new system keeps the old problems.
- **Map the model.** Decide how lifecycle stages, lead status and scoring will work in HubSpot before you import. Our [onboarding implementation checklist](https://www.thequantumleap.business/blog/hubspot-onboarding-implementation-checklist-2026) lays out the sequence.
- **Run in parallel.** Keep the old platform live for a short period, move one program at a time, and set a cutover date.
- **Plan the people.** Train the team that will use it, not only the administrator.

If you want help with the move, our

[migration service](https://www.thequantumleap.business/services/migration) covers the data, the configuration and the training.

## How to decide in a week

You do not need a six month evaluation. A week is enough to learn what matters if you structure it.

- **Pick one real campaign.** For example, a webinar with registration, reminders, follow-up and handoff to sales. Write it out step by step.
- **Ask each vendor to walk through it** on your data and your CRM, not a demo account.
- **Name the owner.** Ask the person who would run it day to day to say what they would need to learn and what they would need help with.
- **Get the whole price in writing:** subscription, setup, support, and the implementation partner.
- **Check one reference** in your size band and ask what they would do differently.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Is Marketo better than HubSpot?

Neither is better for every company. Marketo Engage is positioned by Adobe as an enterprise marketing automation platform, and suits organizations with complex governance needs and the staff to run it. HubSpot Marketing Hub suits teams that want marketing and sales on one platform with published pricing. Decide on your team, your CRM and your use case.

### How much does Marketo cost compared with HubSpot?

HubSpot publishes tier prices on its Marketing Hub pricing page, plus a required one-time onboarding fee on Professional and Enterprise. Adobe does not publish Marketo Engage prices and asks you to request customized pricing, so you cannot compare until you have a quote. Compare the full cost, including setup and the people who will run it.

### Can I migrate from Marketo to HubSpot?

Yes. Contacts, companies and campaign history can be moved, but automations, scoring models and landing pages usually have to be rebuilt to fit HubSpot. Plan an inventory, a data clean up, a property mapping and a period of running both platforms in parallel.

### Which platform is easier to implement?

It depends on scope and on the people available. In our experience a HubSpot implementation for a mid-sized team is usually faster because the CRM and marketing tools share one database, but a Marketo implementation can be straightforward when an experienced administrator leads it. Ask each vendor for a written scope and timeline.

### Do I need an implementation partner?

Not always, but a partner helps most with the parts teams underestimate: the data model, the migration, and training. Ask any partner for a fixed scope, a price and a clear hand-off so your team can run the system on its own.

### Does HubSpot work with Marketo at the same time?

They can run side by side during a move, with careful rules about which platform owns which records. Decide that ownership before you start, or you will create duplicate contacts and conflicting scores.
